Excerpted from the NHRI
______________________
About an hour was gathered Director National Institute of Human Rights, Lorena Fries, Andrea Urzua and Monica Knight, charged in the "Case Pumps." Both women met today, Wednesday, March 23, 1930 days of hunger strike and about seven months of imprisonment in the penitentiary Women's San Joaquin.
The visit of the Director of National Human Rights Institute, Lorena Fries, was carried out by the concern of the NHDR on the health status of Andrea and Monica due to strike hunger that keep for a month, plus concerns about more information on the situation in prisons and the rest of the women inmates. Nearly half the country's female prison population is being held on the campus of San Joaquin.
During the meeting, the women stressed their concern about the implications that the implementation of the Terrorism Act may have in this process.
Prison Location:

As has been discussed extensively in recent times, the situation of prisons in Chile, is in crisis. Overcrowding is exacerbated by the continuation of the inmates locked in their cells for approximately 15 hours a day, places that usually do not have toilets or inadequate light and ventilation.
These conditions are even worse in female prisons, they have not been built house thinking women. The inmates are usually the poorest sectors of society while fulfilling a critical role in support of their families, work is interrupted when they are deprived of their liberty.

Unfortunately, in concession projects existing prisons are not considered women's prisons.

Terrorism Act:

Nature anti-terrorism legislation and the serious consequences of their application on the rights and due process dictate that your application is unique in the rule of law. This law should be clear that a terrorist is one who seeks to destroy the constitutional legal order.

is essential also that the Terrorism Act are processed by the guarantees of due process.
